I've got the same problem on a '48 Dodge bed. Mine is not too severe, the center of the top rail being about 2"-3" forward of where it should be. I was going to leave it in place & drill a hole in the panel just beneath the top rail. Put a good eyebolt through ( weld the eye shut if you only have a cheapie) Make a heavy backing plate behind the panel to spread the force so it all moves together. Use a good chain type come along to pull it back into place without any excitement. Much more controllable. Rig some kind of spreader across the rear of the bed to pull off of. Weld the hole back up. Might be possible to make a fixture to hook over the top rail without drilling. Center of panel will probably come with it but may require more of the same treatment.
