Steering bearings, and axle questions.

I took apart the knuckles on my front axle, a closed knuckle Dana 44 on a '64 W100 Town Wagon, and I found that the steering bearing were shot. So I went to a local drivetrain place, and they looked up parts for me.

The problem is that the numbers I have and the numbers they have don't match.

I have a bearing in the bottom of the knuckle, and a copper or brass bushing for the upper part of the knuckle. Both sit in the same type of race, so they are both cone shaped.

The problem is that this guys books only show the bearings, is there any reason I can't use bearings top and bottom?

Also my service manual says to use "short fiber" grease in the knuckle, and to fill the knuckle about halfway with grease. Another book says to fill the knuckle halfway with 90 weight. What should I use?

On to the next problem, I have a Dana 60 with Sure Grip in the rear, what lube should I use for it? Some people are telling me I need special oil for a Sure Grip, but they don't know what it is.

Any suggestions on things to look out for, or do while I have the axles apart would be greatly appreciated

Thanks for any help you can offer me.

Eric
