No , its sort of impossible w/o an adapter plate as there are not enough bolt and dowel holes to use a V-8 with a L-head bellhousing.
In a very early issue of the PWA, a fellow had made his own adapter plate and used a 318 (in a M-37 I believe).
There are ,whats called "universal" V-8 bellhousings that have the bolt and dowel holes for the 318-slt/6-and L-head/6 but the old style V-8 starter must be used due to the starter bolt pattern. The Helitool kit for V-8 conversion has the fabricated mounting arms that allow the original clutch pedal mounting on the PWs and perhapes even your 1/2 ton. You now have my 2-cents , now its time to research and then research some more and more and more.
