Third member welding {lets try this again]

I have welded a steel tab to the differential third member housing to install hydrolic steering. I have already done the welding with a mig welder and it welded just like any other steel. Does anyone know if it is cast steel or if welding cast iron would appear to weld the same but would not hold good?
