This topic has appeared before. It seems like one opinion that makes sense is that if the engine has been rebuilt fresh that it is the opportune time to start using a multi-viscosity detergent oil or even a synthetic. If the engine has not been rebuilt and is being run with 40-to-50 years-worth of deposits/sludge/carbon/etc inside it, then a detergent oil may tend to break down particles that would otherwise stay attached to the internal surfaces and send the nasty bits through all the moving componants. In this case, a non-detergent straight 30 weight is recommended. I'm not sure if any "non-detergent, multi-viscosity" oils are available...any recommendations??? Bruce
