Bill: That is the most I've been able to learn yet. Thank you!
First let me give you the basics. 1948 FFPW B-1-PW. It is still a 6volt system, but I am going to convert it to a 12V system.
What triggered the issue, is that I removed the gas tank to get it renu'd. When I took off the tank, I looked at the fuel sender and it was a single wire, and I went to look to replace it because when I restore this truck, I really want the fuel gauge to work. It stopped running 10 years ago because of a fuel delivery problem (it has an electric fuel pump). So I was told that the gauge requires 2 wires, and my tank only has one, so somewhere down the line, it would appear that the tank was swapped out. I will also tell you that I have a fuel selector valve on the drivers side floor and two additional fuel tank straps that would appear to have housed a second tank.
Now as I understand it, since I can't change the type of gauge in the cab because the gauge pattern only was for 6v, I am left having to change the fuel sender, and since the 2 wire fuel sender unit only bolts on and cannot fit my original tank, I have to get a whole new tank and 6V 2 wire fuel sender unit, then deal with the 12V conversion.
Is that a correct interpretation?
