Hi Bob,

I've used both POR-15 and HIRSCH'S (sp?) MIRACLE PAINT
as advertised in HEMMINGS AUTO NEWS, with excellent results. I
haven't tried to spray them, and wouldn't do so without
a very good charcoal paint mask. But, brushing works
real well, as both paints do not leave brush marks
after drying. And, each dries to a HARD, HARD surface
that is a gloss black. Either product is avaiable in
white, and clear, I think. In reality, I expect that
both products are identical, just repackaged in different
cans.

I initially used these paints on bumpers and other
exposed surfaces without a topcoat, but found that
they flatted out and chalked up after several months
exposure to sunlight (UV). So, I now use them on either
rusted surfaces, or sandblasted surfaces as an undercoat.
They don't stick well to previously-painted surfaces
without a significant amount of "tooth" in the surface;
hence the sandblasting.

I cover the POR-15 with a simple oil-based undercoat,
such as Rust-Oleum (sp?), and then topcoat with Rust-Oleum
enamels. Semi-gloss on the undercarriage, and gloss
on bumpers and other exposed surfaces.

Looks great, and lasts great. The POR-15 is expensive,
(buy the smallest amount you can, as unused paint doesn't
last more than a month after you open the can, despite
what they tell you about relealing the cans), but is a
foolproof way to rustproof steel and iron surfaces.

Hope this helps.

Pete
