Problems Bleeding Brake Lines

OK, I've just about finished the brake job. I replaced the WCs with NOS, new shoes and hardware, replaced the hoses, and blew out the lines with compressed air.
Got everything put back together and opened the bleeder valve on the right rear, had the Mrs pump the brake pedal. At first, I could hear air escaping. Then...nada.
Took the top off the MC and the level had not moved a bit.

Am I missing something here? Do I have to charge the system, or something? There's a trick to this...right? HELP!!! I should mention that when I disconnected the
line from the MC to hook up the "tank valve" to blow the lines, nothing came out of the MC. That is, I kind of expected brake fluid to come out. On the other hand,
without pumping the brake, I guess nothing should come out. Right?

PS - Oh yeah, this is a '64 W200 with single reservoire MC.
