The valve seats in pre 1961 230 engines are not hardened seats. Without the lead to lubricate, they will wear on unleaded fuel. Easy driving extends there life, but if you pull trailers or live in mountainous areas, they will wear even faster. Adding the lead additive does help, but it is not replacement for hardened seats. Drive your truck until it needs a rebuild, then install hardened seats.
