Diesels usually last longer for a couple reasons. One, diesel fuel is naturally oily and helps lubricate things. Two, diesel engines, with a few exceptions, are built much heavier than gasoline engines. Three, diesel owners tend to watch maintenance much more closely. Take care of any engine and it will last a very long time. I have a friend that has a 94 Dodge Caravan with 240,000 miles on it and it still runs like new. He has never abused it and maintained it regularly. And of course he has always used unleaded gasoline.

There is some concern about unleaded fuels in vintage vehicles causing valve damage, but since most vintage vehicles are driven minimally anyway it makes very little if any difference. There are a few engines that may suffer damage because of unleaded fuel but around 95% of all gasoline engines do as well or better on unleaded.
