The mass of what you are dragging has a lot to do with the trucks ability to handle the load dont forget wind gusts trucks passing etc.Trailers that are built for hauling something like a Power wagon in weight and mass tend to be a noticeable load for a half ton truck. The brakes, suspension and handling characteristics not to mention the weight and mass of the vehicle pulling have everything to do with you're safety. Always use the ol Army way of pulling the load with a bigger vehicle. A 1500# trailer and a 5500-6000 lb truck is already at the wt limit if the trailer tires have the bottom of the tread out more than the top that means the axle tubes are flexing and overloaded weiting for one hard bump or jar to bend and weaken it also puts stress on your bearings a wt distribution hitch witha sway bar will help you but you will still need to be very aware of you,re speed and road conditions.
