Ideally they should be greased, the problem is that the grease works its way out and the possibility of exterior contamination is always present. Some higher end cars with leave springs used to wrap the springs to protect them from dirt, sand, etc. Our trucks were meant to be used and worn out and replaced. Having seen a couple of your trucks, I wouldn't worry about "exterior contamination" though.
