I think it might have something to do with humidity, or more acurately the lack thereof. If the Lucas (Prince of Darkness) electrics work OK in their homeland, but are totally ineffective out here in the semi-arid colonies, maybe they NEED a lot of moisture in them to insure conductivity? Where do you live, and what is the average humidity in that area? (Where I am, humidity only gets above 60% when it is raining, and promptly returns to a normal of 35-40% shortly after.)
