There has got to be a way to use the truck winch to raise it, but I have yet to figure out a scheme that doesn't involve constructing some complicated and ugly framework.
I park facing a shed, stout tree limb, cab of my backhoe, or the like, assemble the a-frame to the truck, rig the winch cable and snatch block, and attach the tie-back cable. Then I drive slowly forward, being careful not to flip the A-frame back onto the truck, until the A-frame is up far enough for the tie-back cable to clear the cab, and attach the latter to the rear pintle. When driving around with the A-frame attached, I hook the cable to the bottom of the bumper and take a slight pull on it, enough to help keep the A-frame from flipping over backwards if I hit a bump.
