My idea would be to find a 4wd chassis, and put the nice 2wd body on it. Then at least the frame VIN would be "authentic"

Yet, considering the basically low dollars that W-series trucks sale for, I would really think hard about performing a bunch of work and throwing dollars at a truck that wont be nearly original in the end.

Some nice Town Wagon PWs have sold recently for very affordable prices.
