My first try would be the voltage regulator. Believe it or not, I have had Dodge trucks actually OVERCHARGE! yea, no kidding. I would hook up a volt meter to the battery. I would start up truck and run it. It should read in between 12.5 volts and 14.5 volts. This sounds like a common voltage regulator problem. Then again, I have had a couple trucks that overchaged like you described, then changed regulator and still no help, and found out it was the alternator itself was at fault! Good luck!
