I think what Eric (and the Bell truck) really needs is someone who will pay the right money for it, and that's probably going to be an individual rather than a group.
It will be quite some machine when it's restored, and I'm sure it warrants a good price plus the cost of a full restoration, but buying by comittee doesn't really work.
If we wanted to help we could spread the word amongst those PW people not on the net to help find the right purchaser, though in principle of something had to be saved the idea of all the forum members contributing to do it is fine.
