They used to tell us in Boy Scouts that if you lose your compass, that moss grows on the north side of trees. The reason for that is that in the Northern Hemisphere, the sun is more powerful on the south side of the tree than the north side of the tree. So the north side of the tree doesn't dry off like the south sode of the tree does.
So maybe the truck was parked facing east?
Another alternate hypothesis!
