On the right front fender, an oil bath air cleaner which was in use for Dodge WC63 in the French army in Sahara. This filter is not here on mere esthetic purpose but in order to try to gain additional power (try to avoid losing power) as I exchanged the original 251-3 for a diesel Perkins 4-236 engine. As from such change, I had noticed a significant decrease of power (40 cv). |
Truck is a Fargo. It was originally used by EdF (Electricite de France) from 1968 until 1978, for the maintenance and repair of the electric lines in the north of Paris area. (The winch was used to tract cables on the country). In 1978, (with 112 000 km) the truck was sold to a scrapman. In 1983, a mad man (myself) bought it to restaure it, firstly with the original engine, then in 1997, with the Perkins, for fuel consumption reasons. The maximum speed being insufficient, I modified the tranfert case in order to double the speed of output shafts. However, the power engine was not sufficient to bring the speed at 100 km/h on motorway! Therefore, I added the air cleaner outside the hood. |
