Scott,
ill try to answer your questions here, the '72-'80 dodge's were known as Power Wagons, chrysler dropped the power wagon name in 1980. 1981 models were rebadged power rams, which i feel was a mistake but i guess the corpartet guys thought the name change might help. but still they were basically the same truck. from 1972- 1993 the trucks were pretty much built on the same platform, in 1981 the body was restyled somewhat from 72-80 the poower wagons were mostly the same, the grills changed a bit thru the years but that was about it trucks built after april 1976 had the marker light/turn signal moved to the grill, some late model 78's began using the dual headlights, then most all 79's had dual head light which in my opinon really looked good, however some 79-80 models you will see with the round headlights, at that time i guess dodge used what ever parts they had on hand .
now for the dana axels, the half tons used a corperate built rear axle, but always used a dana 44 front axle, the 2-200 3/4 ton used a dana 60 in the rear and also used a dana 44 in the front, but a dana60 was an option for the front, the w-300 models usually were equiped with dana 70 rear axles and dana 60's in the front with an option i think of a dana 70 for the front, there were a few years that they built a W-400 which was reall the same as the one ton, but just had a little heavier suspenion, it was also equiped with dana axles.
now for the question as of value, thats up to what one would want tp invest, i dont feel that they are worth as much as the older trucksmlike the (WDX, WM300, W300M or the Power Giant Era Trucks, or The 46-68 Civilian POWER WAGON which is some times refered to as a FF, F-F or Flatfender(i KNow guys i have sinned using that word, its sunday so forgive me :):):):), scroll down a bit on the board scott and read the post for the name variations. but back to the value issue, yes id say they have some value, but only what one is willing to pay, my first truck was a 74 W 200 and yes it was a Power Wagon. I really loved that old truck as i rebuilt it from end to end, the only thing origianl by the time i was done was the hood and steering wheel, but thats another story. also to note the M-880 series truck that were built for the military in the 70's were the same as production model othere than being set up for the modification for the military, no power steering as the military want a big generator on them and most all were set up 24 volt, some where 12 volt, but still a good truck in my book, they had dana 60 rears and dana 44hd in the fronts. and most all were full time fwd, i have seen a few with lock outs. well i hope this helps, im sure there will be otheres on the board that will ring in on this, if you have any more ?'s feel free to email me or post on the board and ill share what know or what i think i know, just my .02 cents worth and with todays prices i guess thats not much, now i guess i owe some one for just writing all this:):):/ anyway have a great day.
