A kick in the head....

I finally got around to working on the truck (again). Took my brake shoes down to get relined and to have my drums measured.

I had acquired 4 "extra" drums and HAD planned on picking the best 4 out of the 8 and mounting them on the hubs before having them turned.

Well, it turns out that all 8 are out of tolerance. I'm definitley getting a second opinion, but the guys that measured them are straight up pros and plus I was watching, so the daignosis is more than likely correct.

Two of my acquired drums look great (looks can be deceiving) and are barely OOT, so I may use them on the rear and, if I can't find another set locally, buy a set of drums from VPW or Higgins or ??? for the front.

To add insult to injury, the price for 8 shoes relined at the same shop has gone up ~$40 since last fall . :-(

I always thought that the Max diameter was 14.125, these guys said that 0.120 over is the industry standard for 14" drums. VPW advertises reconditioned drums that have been cut 0.070 Max. I ASS-ume that the VPW drums are then 14.070 Max, I'll find out for sure.
