I'd pull the head off and see what's going on in there, it's easy to do and you will learn a lot about the condition of the engine. Sounds like a head gasket is a good possibility. You can check the bores, piston surfaces, and valves and seats once the head is off. The oil pump is very easy to change.
My engine had a lot of carbon in the chambers and valves. I replaced rings and rod and main bearings and it's doing just fine. Didn't touch the valves. Bores were fine, head had no cracks, pistons were OK.
I'd say run it until something breaks unless you have a show truck.
