The Dana 44 is a good axle. Yes, you can explode them. You can also explode dna 60's, 70's and rockwells. If you have a lead thottle foot and like to "get air", spin tires, and generally use power/speed verus finese and driving skill then you will want to find a very very heavy duty axle.
If drive your truck kindly and use sense about what both of you can tackle and keep up on the maintenance the axle will give you good service. Oversize tire increase the problems and stress on the axles. The 235/85 R16 tire and the 16.5 size that was stock is a good but boring tire. Check the load rating on your tires. If the load range is "E" then the tire has the correct load rating. If the tire is a "D" then in some states you have put an underrated tire on the truck and can be held liable if there is an accident.

Truck mods can be fun. As with all mods you have to decide how much money and risk you are willing to take on.The more you mod the less the truck is resellable and the more risk you take on.

good luck
