U-joints

I've got a question for all of you guys, I've got a few 1/2 tons and the U-joints on the driveshafts are different on them. Some have the regular round bearing cups, and some have a bar of metal on one side of the cup. They both have different retainers too. So the question is, which one is the right one for the vehicle? I havn't gotten to replacing any yet, but I can just see the look on the kids face at the parts counter when I show him the one with the bar on it. The other Joint without the bar look to be easily gotten. Whats the scoop? Thanks
