I have suggested the idea of a in-line 6 258cu.in. jeep engine (previously AMC)but have gotten no bites or show of interest. Some AMC, carb models from the 70's had plenty of hp and I've read that the later fuel injected models had as much as 190hp?
I prefer a in-line 6 as it allows more working room. The only draw back is that no one makes an adapter that mates it to the chrysler bellhousing. Chrysler should have changed the bolt pattern from the get-go after they aquired AMC, it would have made for a good retro-fit and being that it is now a chrysler engine by proxy, all the brand loyalist would not be offended. Also the intake and exhaust would be on the steering sector-clutch-brake -and PTO side and night present a problem when being plumbed through that area. If only the bolt pattern matched and the head ports for intake and exhaust were on the passengers side ! Good luck
