The Jeep 258 was mated to the NP435 transmission. You could swap to that and use stock Jeep parts. Additionally you could put a 4.0L head on the 258 and mate up the fuel injection.

Yes the 4.0L HO engine makes 190HP. It also has good torque figures as well.

The only downside would be a necessary swap to 12 volt for the engine electronics.
