In an answer to a post below about a 1951 Power Wagon for sale, described as Beautifully restored, Todd had some interesting observations on how we comment on trucks we see here for sale.

The bottom line here that sellers commonly use of the term restore or any one of its various inflections to describe a truck they are obviously proud of, (and in most cases rightfully so) and that they are now listing for sale.

I have found myself next to only a handful of restored vehicles in my lifetime. I dont frequent museums where they are apt to appear. I will never attempt to restore a vehicle, own a restored vehicle, or claim to have a restored vehicle for sale. I am no expert on restored vehicles, in any sense of the term, and dont wish to become one.

There are still a lot of people becoming newly interested in Power Wagons. They typically do not know what they do not know. They typically do not know how may years, and decades, it may take to learn the intimate details of these particular trucks. They probably have an even lessor understanding of how long it may take to unlearn the false information they will find on the internet and shared by others who have limited experience with the vehicles. Quick answers on the various forums and sites are available to help those in need, but are far from the last word.

So when a seller advertises a Power Wagon as being restored, a restoration, or another inflection of the terms, they are willingly offering up the truck for criticism. I, for one, just dont want to see someone get fooled where intentional or not.

So why do sellers toss these terms around so liberally? Answer, because they can. We do not have Concours judging in Power Wagon collecting circles. In my opinion we are better because of that. So no harm intended to anyones ego. And not to belittle anyones hard work. We are just calling it as we see it and pointing out small details to consider before forking out hard earned money.
