Oh, that's what you were cluing in on. The original color was red with black fenders and running boards. At some time the fenders and running boards were also painted red and it was used as a tanker for fire watch at logging shows. Eventually it passed to the former owner who began rebuild with body work and put a coat of red oxide primer over most of it. When I finally got to the outside I decided to preserve the 'patina' which by this time also included a lot of places where the primer had oxidized off and some surface rust. I washed the surface with "Afterblast", lightly sanded to remove roughness, and sealed it with a clearcoat. So no, the brown is not original; a lot of it is the primer, but the original red and rust are also showing through. I don’t know when the stripes were put on the bumperettes, but it looks to me as though they were done with a brush. No sign of holes for the placard, though there were holes in the rocker panels for the gross weight (much more that 6” apart).
