Greed is alive and well in this world at the moment. Not saying everyone is doing it, but some price hike I have seen of 300+% tells me that is is out there.
My wife and I have been shopping lately and have found many cases where the register price is significantly higher than the price on the shelf. In one case it was close to 50% higher on several items at Target. We canceled the purchase, then went to the shelf and took a picture of the price with our phone and showed that to the cashier. They have reduced the price every time. It even happened at a gas station, I didn't notice that the pump price was 10 cents higher than the sign price until I had almost filled the tank. I took a picture of both prices and showed them to them and my receipt. They were not happy, put they gave me the advertised price.
