The larger diameter, as Vaughan pointed out, result in lower RPMs. This is a good thing.
The greater width usually contributes to the tires wanting to "float" on mud or snow, rather than digging down to find firmer ground for better traction. Since you are in Calif., you won't have to worry about snow or ice, and unless you are doing a lot of serious off-roading in mud, that obviously won't be a big concern.
Aesthetically it's a matter of taste.
