Here is an image of the predecessor of the center hinge you have. It is shown on an "early" second series bed that became available shortly into the 1951 B3PW model run. This hinge was first used on the 1946 (some '46 trucks were produced late in 1945) WDX model trucks, thru early '51. Notice how it attaches with one single step bolt with the hinge between the skid strip and the wood. The first series beds, and the "early" second series beds used 6 boards and 5 skid strips and all sat on top of the rear valance.
