Carb question

Is there a "standard" starting point for idle mixture screw on the carb? Mine was almost completely unscrewed from the threaded hole? My question is for example should I screw it all the way in until it stops and back it out 2 1/2 turns or something like that? My truck stalls out in third and fourth gear. Just trying to figure it out. Thanks in advance!
