Thanks for your help. I agree on the if it ain't broke don't fix it approach. And it sounds like the military pto would not really gain me much. That's what I was trying to learn. So, thanks.
Unfortunately/unfortunately the previous owner installed the power booster that goes under the floor boards, i.e. I still have the original pedals. But that booster (I think it's the one from vpw/ Greg coffin) sits in the way of the shaft to drive the rear winch, which is mounted just behind the cab, flush with the flat bed it has. So, I'd have to do significant brake changes. So, I can dream of adding power steering, hydro boost brakes, and then run my winch hydraulic.
