Back off the band, it's too tight. Once the winch is assembled, you adjust the band so it will hold a normal load when the PTO is placed in neutral. What's a normal load, 5,000 pounds lifted. Adjust by turning the band adjusting nut 1/2 turn at a time until it holds. In normal operation the band will heat. If you cannot hold your hand on the band cover, the band is too tight.
Place the band's long adjusting screw/nut top right corner when looking at the open side, or towards driver side.
