On most of the switches there is a spring loaded small button on the switch body that you can press and the knob and shaft will pull out of the switch. Make sure that the switch itself is in the off position (pressed all the way in) then press the small button on the switch body and then you can pull the knob and shaft out of the switch. It takes a little tinkering to get this done but it can be easily done.
