If the gauge uses bi-metallic strips, they may be permanently deformed do to a poor grounding condition that may have occurred. They work on precise heat generated by current, so the gauge has to remain in the instrument cluster so it would be difficult to properly re-calibrate to read accurately. In the PIF at the top of the forum, Group 7, "x" has the gauges used, your truck would have a later gauge by a higher part number. You might want to look for a replacement gauge.

However there may be someone on the forum that has re-calibrated and can assist.
