Connect a positive jumper cable directly to the post on the starter and the ground cable to the engine. Turn the key and if it just clicks, its the starter, most likely the disk in the solenoid.
I have had 4 rebuilt starters die in 1-2 yrs in first gen CTD trucks. Those were all winding shorts, not the disk, and they went from operating to dead in less than a week. Same symptom as yours.
If its the starter, better to replace it than screw around trying to fix it.
