I looked through my books and refreshed my memory.

I created the list of oil seals in the late 1990's and submitted the list to Phil in 2004 I believe. I used two National catalogs - 428 and 415, each Weatherly Index numbers 310, dated 1991. They were old catalogs, but I believed they gave a broader range of options than newer catalogs at the time and possibly provided more opportunities for cross reference. Some numbers may be obsolete by now.

Chrysler part number 924 432 was shown to directly cross over to National 480630, and this was confirmed with dimensions listed in various MoPar parts lists. National 480630 crossed by dimensional numbers to ten other National seals for the same housing and shaft sizes. I narrowed these options down to eight possibilities by eliminating the thin .250 width seals, of which, 480630 was one of those. I also eliminated the .375 width seals which brought the number down to six total. I ignored these all of these thin seals as the original Chrysler leather seals have much wider housings.

I then eliminated the remaining single lip seals from the list (also "48" prefix numbers) out of personal preference for double lip seals. This left remaining 410451, 470451, and 470451H seals - all double lip .437 width seals.

I also have a preference for reinforced seal housings. These have a flat flange lip at the rear of the seal rather than an "open" design. These were how the original Chrysler leather seal housings were made. This type of housing design is much more solid and stable and the seals tend to retain their shape better when pressing them into a housing rather than being slightly "potato chipped" in the process. They are also much easier to remove later as there is a solid surface to hook onto with the jaws of a bearing puller. Again, just personal preference.

This left me with one seal - 410451 - with a wide width of .437, double lip, and reinforced housing. Other part numbers including "45", "47", ad "48" prefix numbers will directly cross reference dimensionally to the 410451, but they have either a single lip, a non-reinforced housing, or both.

But is is fair to mention: the 410451 was mentioned as being, "not a stocked item". It was not discontinued but had to be special ordered. It may be discontinued now. There still should be several options available, including: 450451, 470451, and 480451. These are all .437 in width but are either non-reinforced or are single lip. If one wants narrower seals, more options should be available including the 480630.

Hope this helps.

Junior
