It really does make a giant difference. The last house we just finished here had R56 insulation in the walls! It really does make the place a ton more comfortable...hot or cold. The other thing that’s become mandatory is they do a door blower test. Like basically they pressurize the house with vacuum using a giant fan. They can tell how air tight the house is & it has to meet a certain level to pass inspection. Lots of contractors are having a rough time passing that one. Literally...you have to caulk between all the double & triple studs on the inside...like we have a crew come in & it probably takes 100 large tubes of caulking!
A lot of it is overkill. I kinda like fresh air but these new places with stanch HRV systems...I mean it’s a different ball game. I think if you did this to an older home with no HRV you’d die of CO2 poisoning or suffocate lol.
