I will third hemimech I have a Jeep that did that and was the neutral switch. My wife just got in the habit of bumping the shifter forward before starting for a while. Eventually I took it to the dealer under warranty and they quote "removed an unusual amount of mud from the skid plate and cross member". Hasn't been a problem since. One more reason to stick with a manual transmission.
