The pulleys are different sizes between the trucks and the cars. Are you using the original size for the trucks? You can use the car pulleys too, but they're different size.

The reason that is important is because that will change the generator RPM and thus the timing of operation of the cutout relay in the voltage regulator due to the engine RPM changes between idol and full throttle.

You don't want the cut out relay engaged when the engine is below idol or off because then the generator will act like a DC electric motor (instead of a generator) and try to turn the engine over through the fan belt.

The voltage should be like 13 to 14.5 volts or so at idol with a reasonably charged battery.

You need a carbon pile charging system tester to set it all up correctly and make it work reliably.
