Gas Tank Cleaning

I saw an article about using CLR as a gas tank rust remover. Anyone tried this and if so, did it work without eating the tank?

I pulled my fuel sender unit out of my 54 (6 Volt) flat fender today. Was surprised to find the unit was stamped "12 Volt". Are sender units interchangable?
