Hi Bill, I’ve stripped lots & lots of cars to bare metal with stripper. The only stripper bodyshops around here seem to use is made by Pro Form. It’s just called Aircraft Stripper.
So the key with chemical stripper is to not get too fussy at first. Get a plastic tray & pour in like a quart of it. Use like a 2” $1.00 paint brush & just brush it on liberally...like 1/4” thick. Once it’s on...don’t touch it or move it...let it do it’s work & don’t disturb it or let oxygen at the coating. Let it sit 10 minutes or so while you’re applying more further along. Come back with a plastic scraper & scrape off the loose paint...you’ll see it bubbling up. Just scrape as much as possible & keep applying. It usually takes 2 or 3 applications to get the bulk of it off & don’t worry if there’s small amounts left. It’ll just sand off easy once it’s loosened up.
It’s a long process. Can easily take 20-30 hours to do a car not counting door jambs & hard to get areas.
Wear gloves! :) I hate gloves but that stuff burns like a bastard :)
Have fun :)
