This whole problem is weird. Your fuel line goes up the drivers frame then across the front frame member and up to the pump. Heat should not be a problem as the exhaust goes down and out the passenger side. Heat could be a problem from the pump to the carb and people have covered that already.

I wonder if you might have a “leak” in your system prior to the pump that is allowing air to be sucked in which may be more of an issue in warmer weather. I would clean and inspect the fuel line for any staining from leaking gas. Look especially at the joints and consider tightening them. Before I would tighten the joints I would check the pickup tube in the tank. That thing can rust and get lots of pinholes from water in your tank. We all know that tanks get water in them. I am not home to check, but it might be possible to pull the pick up tube. If the pickup tube has holes you will be sucking air. Do you Have as much vapor lock when the tank is full?

I can’t remember but if there is a short piece of rubber gas line going into the pump, replace it if you haven’t. If you have the firewall gas filter, take it apart and clean it and make sure the seal is in good shape. Mine did get plugged once after I got some bad gas.
