Hi guys, yup, I’m not really that big a fan of “The West System” but I guess what the issue is with boats, it takes several days for the boards to swell up & become water tight once they’re put in the water.
So in 1940 that wasn’t a problem. You drop that sucker in the lake & get your pump going every few hours until it stops leaking.
So fast forward to 2020 & you go buy your Dodge Brothers boat with Lycombing straight 8 & you drop $225k. It’s not likely you’ll be leaving this baby in the lake until October :) Like you’re probably wanting to drop it into Lake Tahoe for the annual boat show, put it back onto your trailer & get it back into the man cave & spend the 100 hours to detail it back up :)
...but I agree...it shouldn’t be called a restoration anymore than a power wagon equipped with seat belts or a dual master cylinder on a pre WM300 truck is.
I know, it’s allowed by the concours guys just like “The West System” is..but it shouldn’t be since it didn’t come that way from Dodge
:)
All that said, for you Clint I suggest a Riva. They don’t leak and don’t require alterations to make them not leak.
And...I have one I can trade you for those two old Power Wagons you have there wasting away!
:)
