There must be some differences in the winch parts from early to later. I have the drum that secures the cable at the bottom of the drum using a a hole/lock screw and I have very little side movement of the drum. People have mixed matched parts on these trucks it's hard to determine what is the correct part or parts without comparing winches we know seem to be correct. In yours and Nick's case, something doesn't seem right with with having a gap that large. Nick and I may need to compare are winches and try to determine what the issue is.
