You are spot-on, Bruce. Is it getting a LOT of media attention? Yes. Should it get so much media attention? For the most part, probably so. Everything I've read and seen in the media agrees very well with what the CDC and other medical organizations are saying. I haven't seen much, if any, distortion or false information. I think people should be concerned - not terrified - and should act responsibly. There are a lot of people who sort of live under rocks, so without the constant media focus on this, those people wouldn't necessarily get the guidance they should be getting and would risk contracting and spreading this disease.
And yes, you're right, it's not about comparing this to the flu, which kills many more people, it's about adding this burden to our already-burdened healthcare system, ON TOP OF the flu and other issues that already ordinarily burden our system. Some people want to blow this off and claim that it's an over-hyped situation, exaggerated by the media or certain politicians or whoever else, but I disagree (for the most part). If we don't get a handle on it, we will be in the same boat that Italy, China and other countries have been in. If the number of cases and deaths in our part of the world never gets very high, then we can thank all of this hype for that because the attention will have prompted people to do the things that kept it from getting to such a point.
