Guys,

As I go through my 1960 WM300 as part of my engine rebuild i am realizing the previous owner mixed and matched components in the drive line. I figured I would go through the transmission since it is out of the truck. Based on the year of the truck I figured I would have a NP420 but I have the following power train line up:

Engine D341-173542 - 1950 Dodge Custom 6 car engine – being rebuilt and modified for more power
Transmission casting #C88671 dated 2/28/1951 - Early synchro 3/4 ton M37 transmission
Transfer case 2-speed marked 1.96 to 1 Ratio (I assume hi is 1:1 and low is 1.96:1)

Questions:
1) If I use the Army NP420 transmission manual are all the measurements and tolerances the same for the early synchro transmissions also?
2) Is it correct to assume the early synchro transmission is rated for 1-ton also?
3) Is there any areas in the early synchro transmission I should pay particular attention to when I rebuild?
4) Is there any way to tell what my final gear ratio is without opening the rear differential?

Thanks again
