With practically every manufacturer in the 1950's focusing their attention on V-8 engines, is it possible that the methods of testing, and the equipment that they were using for testing, was improving for both accuracy and reliability? Maybe the later tests are a better representation of the horse power than the earlier tests? And, were later reported results on 6-cylinder engines a reflection to some extent upon the manufacturer stretching the truth a little in response to the competition of V-8 engines? Were the published results compiled from manufacture testing or testing from independent labs?
