I'm going to make some new cab mounts for my 51. I thought I'd try to get things lined up before I eventually get around to removing the cab for painting. The old mounts were compressed enough that it was just rubbing on the frame, so I removed the nuts and raised the cab enough to put a piece of 2 inch square tubing next to the front mount and a piece of 1-1/2 in. tubing next to the rear mount.
This seems to make the cab set fairly level in relationship to the frame and the running boards. It also lifted the hood up at least 1/2 to 3/4 inches above the fenders, so it doesn't rub anymore.
I'm wondering if I should shoot for making the new mounts finish out at this height? There is about 3/4 inches of clearance between the frame and cab in most places now.
Is this about where other people have ended up with their trucks, or should I lower it a little?
